Another strange idea...

Ok, I posted that 'goes with nothing but the strangeness that is in my head' picture that Kitana did, a couple of entries ago...
(this one, for those who missed it)
http://home.woh.rr.com/picturespare/Mission.jpg
And there were several pokes about a story to go with it. Which I don't have. Nor am likely to have the time to write anytime in the next year. Or so.
So...
I had this idea and wondered what you guys would think of a contest/challenge for it? I don't have a real clear idea how to go about this, but I was thinking maybe just run it here in LJ and then do a poll? Maybe for a PL Nunn commission?
But...
Before I start this thing in motion, would anybody be interested? Any suggestions? Tell me I'm nuts? ^^;

A challenge to write a story based on a pic, with a commission as a prize? Hm, I dunno about that. *snicker*

I think it's a great idea. You go for it. You know you'll have my support and help, if you need it for anything. (I'm sure you won't.)

Btw, it's a terrific picture. I think some good fic can come out of that. ^_~

I know... it's just the strangest idea! Think it'll fly? ^__~

I tried to get Kit to do the prize too, but she said that would be just a little bit TOO strange. ^^;

I don't think I'll make too big of a deal out of it, just have people post links or the story itself here in LJ, do an LJ poll at the end. (assuming I can figure out how that's done! ^^;) And I'm sure Pam won't mind a bit more business!
Besides... can we really have too many missiony Heero/Duo fics? ^__^

I don't know, maybe you should reconsider. *snerk* No, I think it's a great idea, especially since the stories that will probably be written for the pic are the kind I'll want to read.

Polls are easy to make in LJ. The only trick is that you can't make the results (and who voted for which fic) secret. At least not that I've seen. When I did Rapture's last contest, I used a pay site that let me have the results visible only to me.

can we really have too many missiony Heero/Duo fics?

Do I really need to answer that? *thinks she already has* ^______^

Oh, that would complicate things, wouldn't it? I wouldn't want people to feel funny about people seeing how they voted. (Assuming we get more than a couple of stories!) I'll have to poke around at that. Thankfully, I've got time before I have to deal with that part!
(Pam, by the way, just agreed to do the commission this afternoon, so that's covered too. ^^;)

Instead of a poll, just make it so people vote via comments in a LJ post that is screened so only YOU can see the answers. then you're set. That's how a lot of icon contests are run. :D

Ooooh... that's a nifty idea too! Not that I know how to use filters any better than I know how to do polls... *snicker*

When you post, you have the option to make comments screened. Its simple- no filters needed. The only thing to remember is that when you reply to a comment, it will be UNSCREENED until you go to the page and re-screen it.
Screened comments will also appear as grey on the page, and only you, and the person who posted, will be able to read it.
Screening a comment on the page is just hitting that eye with a line through it you see next to each comment.
Setting a post to screen comments is on your update page is under "screen comments" in the grey box. Just set it to 'all comments"
If you use semagic, its at the bottom under "screen replies"
If you have any questions, just poke. :D

You know... I think I've stumbled into places where that was set before and came away terribly confused. *snerk* Looks like I need to practice some things. Good thing I've got a couple of months. ^__~

Practice is a good thing. Lord knows we'll all be willing to help. :D
