Oh shoot... it didn't come across? I thought I dropped enough hints in the Noin and Quatre interchanges to lay the ground work so that the talk with Zan would bring it around. It's basically the guys not understanding the nature of Duo's teasing. Not getting the depth of his intentions; taking his jokes at face value, would make them seem a bit... mean? So the prank was pay-back for their own perceptions, so to speak. But I think Duo set them all straight and it's safe to assume that the guys will get what he's doing next time. ^___~
